Cocoa & Carolling

Saturday, December 4, 3-5pm, Berney Park

Join RNNA for our annual Cocoa & Caroling event! We'll gather in Berney Park for some sweet treats, hot cocoa, caroling, hayrides and even a visit with Santa. It's a fun-for-all-ages celebration! Questions or interested in helping with the event? Contact event Chair Renee Mitcham.

Holiday Lights in Berney Park

That time of year is just around the corner! Last year RNNA put up holiday lights in Berney Park and the green space near our entryway sign, as well as wreaths on the sign. We'll be bringing those decorations back this year. If you'd like to help, contact Park & Green Spaces VP Joe French.

Holiday Lights Contest

Our Holiday Decorating Contest is back! This year's categories are Best Whimsical Lights, Best Traditional Lights, and Most Festive Block. Individual winners will receive a prize, and all winners will be recognized in our newsletter and on social media. To nominate a house or block, contact Yard of the Month Chair Una Bailey. Judging will take place the weekend of December 10.

Berney Park Playground Improvements

Exciting News for Berney Park! Morris E. Berney Park, the heart of Ridglea North, will be getting new playground equipment in 2022. A steering committee, representing the Park and Green Spaces Committee, the Moms Group and the neighbors who live directly across from the Park, met with the Project Manager from Ft. Worth Park & Recreation on Friday. We are receiving information about the type and scope of the equipment that could be available for Berney Park. The City is very interested in working with RNNA to make sure the playground fits the interests of our neighborhood. Watch your RNNA emails for more information and how you can be involved in the process.

Yard of the Month

The yard at 6220 Locke, with very cleverly arranged large skeletons, has been awarded this month's Yard of the Month. Since the award is not being announced until after Halloween, the homeowners have agreed to keep the display up for several weeks into November. That's OK with them though, because their grandson loves the skeletons. The homeowners are Terry & Terry Schultz, who have won yard of the month before for their wonderfully clever & beautiful yard filled with Christmas trees. Mrs. Terry, as she calls herself, says her husband, Mr. Terry, is the clever one. He loves to decorate their yard with distinctive & unusual designs for the holidays. Her part is enjoying his fun, clever designs. Be sure to drive by soon, as he will be removing the skeletons in several weeks in order to create their winter holiday decorations. Congratulations to the Schultz family!

A Look Back at...

National Night Out

On October 5, neighbors spent an evening visiting with first responders and enjoying live music, burgers and ice cream. Representatives from our neighborhood schools provided a craft for the kids, and the ML Phillips Roadrunner made a special appearance too! The RNNA Moms Group hosted the Kids Zone with temporary tattoos, chalk, and games for the kids. Representatives from the City of Fort Worth and West Aid provided information about how they serve the community. Special guests Mayor Mattie Parker and District 3 Council Member Michael Crain even took a climb on our climbing wall! Thank you to all our generous donors and volunteers, and to our event sponsor Happy State Bank, for making this event possible.

Litter Stomp

On October 16, neighbors gathered in the park for some light breakfast treats before spreading out to collect trash around Ridglea North and pull weeds in Berney Park. Thank you to our volunteers for keeping Ridglea North beautiful!

Neighbor Spotlight: Weber Massengale

1) Tell us about yourself and your family.  I grew up in Nashville, TN, and then came down to Texas A&M for Aerospace Engineering in 2014. After interning for Bell one summer up here in Fort Worth, I decided I loved the city and the company, so I took a full time job in the military business side of the Bell in February of 2019. I rented a house in Ridgmar my first year here and realized how nice Ridglea North was, so I started shopping around for houses near the end of that lease over here on this side of the highway. I got super lucky and found my house on Malvey right before the COVID housing boom happened in March of 2020 and moved in that May! I live with my two best friends from college and our two dogs, Orville and Rex.

2) How long have you lived in Ridglea North? I bought my house in May of 2020, so I've been here about 1.5 years.

3) What’s your favorite neighborhood activity or event? My favorite Ridglea North activity is the Christmas decorating. I've always loved Christmas lights, so that fact that our neighborhood goes out of the way to decorate the entrance area and Berney Park is awesome!

4) What’s your favorite thing to do in Fort Worth?  Fort Worth has so much to offer, but two of my favorite things are running along the Trinity and hanging out in the Stockyards. I think one of the best ways to explore a city is on foot, so I've run all over the west side of Fort Worth. I like running from my house down to the Trinity Trails and then winding along the river towards downtown. I also love two stepping in the Stockyards. The Stockyards are such a unique Fort Worth experience, so my friends and I like taking advantage of that area.

5) What’s your best advice on being a good neighbor? I'd say to get involved with your block, even if it's just you saying "hey" as you drive by. I've helped facilitate a few block activities since moving in, and it's made the neighborhood immediately feel like home by getting to know everyone that lives around you.
